Request Report of Initiatives

Status of this Request: Housing and Facilities are estimating costs

Council Meeting Date/Time for Discussion and Vote: n/a

Location: PV Beach

Request Received on: April 5, 2014

Submitted by: Engineering Residents

Submission Method: Verbal and Digitals submissions

Description of Initiative/Request/Situation: PV Beach gets incredibly dark at nights. This can be seen as a disability for simply walking around and using the area at later hours; however, it is greatly seen as a safety hazard. This is something that need to be address with serious input.

Presented Reason for Request: Installing some sort of lighting system around the PV Beach area will allow a greater use during nightly hours as well as increased safety for nightly travel through north campus.

Pros

  • Increased safety for nightly travel through north campus.
  • Increased nightly use of PV Beach.

Cons

  • Possibility of a high dollar amount.

If you have any additional information or want to share your opinion, please email rha.engineering@asu.edu with the subject line "Initiative RN0001". Thank you!

Status of this Request: Denied by ASU Housing for cost outweighing short term benefits

Council Meeting Date/Time for Discussion and Vote: n/a

Location: PV East Hub

Request Received on: May 2, 2014

Submitted by: ERC President

Submission Method: First hand/internal submission

Description of Initiative/Request/Situation: The PV East hub is locked to over 50% of engineering students for late night use. Current late night access is highly unknown that PV East housing keys will unlock the back entrance of the PV East Hub.

Presented Reason for Request: Installing ID card access point/points will allow 100% of Engineering students late night access to the PV East Hub allowing use of the study areas and computers located inside. Also, the installation will make it obvious that students have access to these areas where it is currently unknown to most of the few who do have access.

Pros

  • Resident's can have late night access to study areas and computers.

Cons

  • Cost may not be worth it since PV buildings are planned to be redone in the next few years.

If you have any additional information or want to share your opinion, please email rha.engineering@asu.edu with the subject line "Initiative RN0002". Just because it was denied, doesn't mean we can't ask/try again. Thank you!

Status of this Request: Research into pros, cons, and cost vs benefit. Also looking into the current Front Desk system and ensuring that nothing would get stolen. Planning how everything would work out as well as alternatives.

Council Meeting Date/Time for Discussion and Vote: To Be Announced

Location: PV East Front Desk

Request Received on: August 13, 2014

Submitted by: ERC President

Submission Method: First hand/internal submission

Description of Initiative/Request/Situation: The request is for new vacuums for checkout behind PV East Front Desk for checkout.

Presented Reason for Request: The current vacuums for checkout have little to no sucking power. This is a necessity that residents can not each cover themselves.

Pros

  • Resident's can have the confidence that the vacuums will actually work.
  • Quality vacuums enable residents to maintain a cleaner environment within the halls.

Cons

  • Possibility of being stolen (again)
  • Even new vacuums tend to break down after constant use and are hard to maintain under warranty
  • The number of vacuums bought will be inversely proportionate to their individual cost.

If you have any additional information or want to share your opinion, please email rha.engineering@asu.edu with the subject line "Initiative RN0003". Thank you!

Status of this Request: Completed. Approved by ASU Housing and Facilities. Installation complete. Residents can now ask the front desk to enabling them.

Council Meeting Date/Time for Discussion and Vote: To Be Announced

Location: PV Main A/B & C/D Courtyards

Request Received on: August 11, 2014

Submitted by: ERC President

Submission Method: First hand/internal submission

Description of Initiative/Request/Situation: The request is for fixed/stationary lights to be installed in the A/B courtyard that will automatically enable by schedule, or manually by switch that will better light up the Volleyball court and more of the same lights to be installed in the C/D courtyard that will better light up the Gaga ball pit.

Presented Reason for Request: Installing these lights would help promote use of the courtyard activities later in the night when most people prefer to play.

Pros

  • Residents can now use the courtyard activities at the preferred times to play.
  • Promote activities that require multiple people and socialization

Cons

  • Cost might outweigh the benefits because Palo Verde is scheduled to be knocked down  somewhere in the near future (about 3 years)
